In The Exit, one short sequence of the larger Special Announcements project, the camera is fixed and there is a monochromatic background. The only elements the viewers see are my face, body, and words. Each element acts autonomously, in front and behind the camera. Through this piece, I want to explore various dimensions of the human condition, often with a tinge of the absurd. Focusing on human psychology, the use of language, and the apparent meaninglessness of life, I often use repetition. Repeated motifs offer both a means of expression and method of working.
I was recently invited to be a part of the group exhibition at MOMA in Tbilisi, Georgia. The exhibition, entitled Shots Across the Plane, opened on May 9th and showcases a group of prominent video artists: Hito Steyerl, Pipilotti Rist, Janet Biggs, myself, Tamara K.E., and Tamar Chaduneli. The show is curated by Jeremy Gales & Nino Macharashvili and organized by Project Artbeat.
Thanks to the kind support of IASPIS and the Swedish Embassy, I had the opportunity to bring my work to Tbilisi and attend the show personally.
